Art 5203 Graduate Perspective Drawing 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 203 or ART 204, or the equivalent
Advanced problems in the rendering of pictorial space, including theoretical study and execution of projects in traditional and modernist approaches to the perspective window.

Art 5204 Graduate Figure Drawing 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 203 or ART 204, or the equivalent
Advanced problems in the drawing of the figure. Study will include anatomy, rendering techniques, and media exploration.

Art 5305 Computer Illustration 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus

Art 5403 Illustration 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course is designed to enhance the student’s capabilities in the production, presentation and commercialization of illustration skills. In addition to the components of basic illustration techniques

Art 5411 Pastel Painting: Non-Figurative 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus

The use of pastel and other dry media in the creation of abstract and non-objective works, with study of historical perspectives on modernist in dry media.

Art 5412 Pastel Painting: Figurative 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus

The use of pastel and other dry media in the creation of works referring to the visual world, with study of historical perspectives on mimetic art in dry media.

Art 5427 Art for Special Populations 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course focuses on art instruction techniques with special populations, focusing on individualized instruction programs offering children opportunities to work through obstacles impeding their educational success.

Art 5431 Graduate Sculpture I 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course consists of sustained practice and development of skill in modeling of sculptural form in plyable media such as ceramic clay and plasticine. Attention is given to both realistic and stylized approaches. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 5432 Graduate Sculpture II 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 5431
This course consists of sustained practice and development of skill in modeling as a preparatory step toward carving in non-pliable media such as stone and wood. Sustained modeling practice is ongoing concurrent with a semester carving project. (Additional $15 lab fee)

This course focuses on experimentation with handmade paper techniques as a means to create three-dimensional works of art. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 5451 Ceramics: Glaze Formulation 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 351
This course involves research and experimentation with glaze formulation, including a study of properties of glaze chemicals and how they interact together in the firing process. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 5452 Ceramics: Wheel Throwing 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus

Art 5474 Professional Internship 3 sem. hrs.
Prerequisite: Instructor’s consent
A period of apprenticeship and/or observation by arrangement with a professional business specializing in interior design, graphic design or other professional disciplines in art, or with an institution in the field of museology.

Art 5481 Graduate Photography I 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This is a studio course in black and white photography, including camera and darkroom work, with a study of photographic theory. Individual advanced creative directions will be explored, along with research in the history and practice of photography.

Art 6101 Graduate Design 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course is an advanced theory exploration and application course structured to guide the graduate student toward the utilization of advanced philosophical thought and the application of higher level theory production in the student’s work.

Art 6117 Communicating the Gospel Through Art 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus

Art 6207 Curriculum Development in Studio Art 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course traces the development of art education curricula in American schools and universities from the nineteenth century to the present. A special emphasis will be placed on contemporary issues and influences in the fields of art education. During the course, an exemplary art unit of study will be developed.

Art 6208 Theories of Art Education 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course presents a comprehensive survey of trends and movements in the field of art education that have shaped its p resent-day philosophy. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of ideas expounded by theorists from 1900 to present.

Art 6318-6319 Special Projects in Printmaking I & II 3 sem. hrs ea. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: Art 5318 Graduate Printmaking: Non-figurative or three hours of approved graduate printmaking courses.
These courses are for the purpose of directed experience in printmaking.  Courses are designed with flexibility whereby an advanced art student may continue an advanced level of work in printmaking  projects determined according to individual need and specific areas of interest.  The student will submit a proposal that establishes specific goals and objectives that must be approved and supervised by the professor of record.

Art 6411-6412 Special Projects in Pastel I & II 3 sem. hours ea. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: Art 5411 Pastel Painting: Non-Figurative 3 sem. hrs. OR Art 5412 Pastel Painting: Figurative 3 sem. hrs. or six hours of approved graduate pastel courses.
These courses are for the purpose of directed experience in pastel. Courses are designed with flexibility whereby an advanced art student may continue an advanced level of work in pastel projects determined according to individual need and specific areas of interest. Art 6431 Graduate Sculpture III 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 5432
This course consists of sustained practice and development of modeling skill with a semester carving project. A minimum of one project must involve mold making and casting in plaster and/or fiberglass media. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 6511 Watercolor Painting: Non-Figurative 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course is designed to give the graduate student advanced application experience in the rendering of various settings within the arena of artistic compositions, such as still life, landscapes, seascapes, architecture, design application, and the application of experimental media.

This course is an advanced oil and acrylic course designed to focus on the development of painting skill related to still life, landscapes, and design-oriented composition.

These courses are for the purpose of further directed experience in an individually chosen sculptural medium with a stated goal or objective. Advanced level projects with consideration of students= professional goals. A course with flexibility in which an advanced art student may continue an advanced level of work in projects determined according to individual need and specific areas of interest. A student preparing for graduate school may in this way do further study in an area in which he/she plans to do work on a graduate level.

Art 6543-6544 Special Projects in Oil/Acrylic Painting I & II 3 sem. hours ea. | Syllabus

Art 6546 Principles & Methods for Elementary School Art 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Lectures consist of various theories and practices in art education as applied to the elementary school. Laboratory work consists of familiarization with children’s art materials and sources, with suggested aids in budgeting. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 6551 Ceramics: Hand-Build Methods 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 351
Various hand-built methods, such as coil and slab, will be used to create a body of work that reflects experimentation and advanced craftsmanship. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 6552 Ceramics: Surface Enrichment 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
Prerequisite: ART 351.
This course includes experimentation with historical and contemporary methods of surface enrichment. (Additional $15 lab fee)

Art 6565 Studio Thesis III 3 sem. hours | Syllabus
Prerequisites: Art 6564
This course is a continuation of ART 6564, Studio Thesis II and is required of students who did not fulfill the requirements of 6564, Studio Thesis II. Credit for this course would be beyond the 60 hour minimum for the MFA

Art 6563 Studio Thesis I 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course is preparative to the M.F.A. Thesis and focuses on the combination of written and studio research. Students will investigate research findings and research methods in art and prepare individualized research.

Art 6564 Studio Thesis II 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus
This course is a continuation of Art 6563. Students will actively work on a thesis exhibition as required by the M.F.A. degree.

Art 6591, 6592, 6593 Field Studies 1, 2, or 3 sem. hrs. | Syllabus respectively
Prerequisite: Department Chair approval
These courses are taught in response to a specific need and request. They may involve non-traditional teaching techniques and will usually combine formal education with practical experience in a career field.
NOTE: Courses 6591, 6592, and 6593 may be repeated as necessary for up to six hours credit. In most cases, the student should not expect to earn more than six semester hours in any combination of field experiences courses.
