The Department of Art at Mississippi College offers a full program of studies leading to the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Art. We offer the faculty, facilities, resources, and encouragement which can lead to personal and professional fulfillment in artistic expression and practice. Our professional degree programs focus on the exploration and development of traditional and contemporary skills in visual design and communication. Mississippi College is a Christian college with classroom instruction and faculty-student relationships based on principles of spiritual character and support. Students wishing to earn a degree in Studio Art will be exposed to a number of disciplines including the 2-D skills of drawing and painting and the 3-D skills of sculpture and ceramics. Their instruction will also include a historical component as well as an aesthetic one. The instructors are artists in their own right with work in collections all over the world. Their own talents come through their teaching to inspire the students in their charge. The student who completes this coursework will have honed his or her talent to become a better artist and further to make a creative contribution to the world around them.

The graphic design program instills in each student a wide range of creative skills, which are used to provide design materials for their professional future. Our hands-on classes teach students to mix art and technology into various forms of visual communication. The department?s instructors lead by example and use the latest design software in their classes. Students will be immersed in creative problem solving in order to build a portfolio that showcases their individual talents and technical abilities. It is the aim of MC?s graphic design program to create professionals capable of meeting the challenges of this ever-changing career field."

The interior design program seeks to provide academic and pre-professional preparation for careers in residential and commercial interior design as it relates to aesthetic, technical, and global aspects of design decisions, client relations, and professional conduct. The program focuses on broadening the understanding of interior design, strengthening applicable skills and motivating academic interest and professional knowledge all while integrating faith and Christian ethical thought throughout the educational process. The Council for Interior Design Accredited program awards a B.A. or B.S. in Interior Design and maintains an American Society for Interior Designers Student Chapter providing various field trips, guest speaker opportunities and interaction with ASID professional members to its students.

Students in the Art Education Program at Mississippi College begin with a strong foundation in drawing and design and continue to take studio classes as they pursue professional courses in education. At the undergraduate level, the Bachelor of Science in Art Education degree (BSEd) prepares students for a career as an elementary, middle and/or high school art teacher as well as for careers with other agencies and institutions such as art museums. The program focuses on a comprehensive approach that includes the study of the theory and practice of art criticism, art history, aesthetics, and art making at the K-12 levels. The final semester of study consists of directed teaching in area schools. A Master of Education Degree in Art (MEd) allows students to further their knowledge of art education practice and research while improving their studio skills.

Our professional degree programs focus on the exploration and development of traditional and contemporary skills in creative art, both in studio art and visual design and communication. The Department of Art encourages the exploration of art in a creative environment in which Christian values can find free exercise in the art experience.
