Digital Illustration Techniques - Each day, students will explore a range of creative techniques using Affinity, a powerful free design software with instruction from Associate Professor Ben Ivey. Hands-on skills will include, including vector drawing, digital painting, imaginative digital collage, digital photography, and custom type design. Along the way, students will learn essential design principles while completing guided exercises that encourage personal style and experimentation. By the end of the week, participants will have a collection of original digital artworks suitable for portfolios, print, or sharing online — and a deeper understanding of how illustrators think, design, and bring ideas to life.
Photography - Join us for an immersive photography class where you’ll dive into the world of both digital photography and film development! Our instructor, Lanie Bradford, will guide you through every step, introducing you to the art of composing and capturing images, using film and digital cameras, developing negatives, and printing your images by hand using classic darkroom techniques. By the end of the week, students will walk away with their own hand-developed prints and the knowledge to continue exploring this timeless medium.
Ceramics - Ever wanted to learn to make a piece of pottery? In this session taught by Associate Professor Ray Gregory, students will learn to center, throw, and shape pottery on the wheel. Surface decoration can be added to make functional pottery like coffee cups or vases. The ten best pieces will be fired and the best piece will be glazed for later pickup.
Acrylic Painting - Learn to paint using acrylics! In this session taught by Assistant Professor Chase Quarterman, students will be taught the basics of acrylic painting and utilize the elements of art including value, color, and form. Students may use their photo or select one of those provided. Open to both beginners and more advanced artists, the course offers individualized guidance to support each student’s growth. At the end of the week, students will have a painting suitable for framing.
Pastels - This course introduces students to the expressive and technical possibilities of pastel drawing. Students will explore bold color, dynamic mark-making, and layered techniques while experimenting with a variety of surfaces and subjects. By the end of the week, students will have several pastel drawings suitable for framing. Designed for artists at all experience levels, this course provides personalized instruction from instructor Cheryl Presly Becker to help each student refine their skills and expand their creative practice.
